The second of our double-header with innovative Quebec composer Maxime Goulet. Following last episode’s review of Goulet’s work with Gameloft and some of his compositions for orchestra, we’re moving on to more innovations in composition, Warhammer 40,000 and indie games!

What a great first interview. I was pleased and privileged to talk to Maxime Goulet, the Montreal-based composer of a score (forgive me) of video games, as well as a renowned classical composer in his own right.
Our website is NOT “virtualosos.com”, which I stupidly assumed was available when I recorded this. “shep.ca” is a good place to look for the podcast; its actual home is at videogamemusic.shep.ca, but that’s a mouthful.
For the first episode of Virtualosos, we’re focusing on Normand Corbeil — an acclaimed Quebec composer, most noted for his score for Heavy Rain. We trace his career from early work in direct-to-video genre music, through his early game career, the award-winning Heavy Rain, and the soundtrack he started — but didn’t finish — due to his untimely demise.
I’m not entirely happy with this episode! I think I sound like a bit of a self-important wanker. I’m still trying to figure out a voice here. It’s going to get more casual.
